The Federal Government recognizes compressed natural gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel, and offers tax credits and incentives of up to $.50 per gallon. There are some qualifications to meet, but the credit is generous and has helped convince a lot of companies to convert some or all of their fleet to CNG. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) also provides loan guarantees to eligible projects that reduce air pollution and greenhouse gases, and support early commercial use of advanced technologies, including biofuels and alternative fuel vehicles.
